sinamics s210 stand alone drive without controller

Dear Expert,

i was wondering if we can use Sinamis S210 as stand alone drive, with programmed speed configured already. The selection of the speed is using digital input of the drive it self, without no PLC CPU connected to the drive.

As far as I know this is not possible with S210. When I set it up in Startdrive I always have to select a telegram (1 out of 4 options).

And you have no option of freely setting up the digital inputs - also here just selected options. 

So I guess you will need a PLC.

Am I correct in understanding that unlike the S120 where the controller is the CU3xx, the S210 uses the S7-1500 as the controller?

Hi Einstein,

not really. 

The CU320-2 is the control unit to calculate the drive control functions (servo control etc.). You can still have a PLC above it to control the machine or do the motion control functions.

For the S120 (modular system) you can see the CU as a separate part.

The S210 of course also internally has something like a controller/processor to control the drive functionality (servo control etc.). And additionally you "must" have a PLC above it as the S210 itself cannot do motion control.
