Hello Andy Parry I don't mean to spoil the party, but I would advise you to put in new Ethernet cable instead of using the old Sinec L1 cable. As far as I'm concerned, theonly thing that SINEC L1 cable has in common with CAT5 Ethernet cable is the number of cores (4), but that's as far as it goes (I highly doubt that the cable characteristics of SINEC L1 cable will make it a suitable choice for Ethernet usage). Note further that SINEC L1 cable runs between 2 Bus terminals could be a few kilometers long (baudrate was 9600 bps) whereas CAT5 (on CAT5 rated cable) is max 100 meters (which could become another party spoiler) and trying to get an RJ45 Plug onto the SINEC L1 cable will create some additional "fun". Bottom line: I don't think trying to keep the old SINEC L1 cable is worth taking the risk and hope this helps. |

Hello again Andy Parry it appears you are not the only one who would like to re-use old cabling for a new Ethernet based Network. I've just come across theWestermo DDW222 device which claimsto allow you to do exactly what you intend to do (andmakes a mockery out of my previous advise should it indeed work as it says it will). Anyway, thought this Westermo developement might interest you or others and you can find out more about it at thelink below: http://www.westermo.com/Resource.phx/content/products/ethernet/ethernet-extender/ddw-222.htx |
