SINEC L2 vs PROFIBUS DP

There are my problem/questions: I have a project with S5115U CPU944. It communicates with some ET200U and some FESTO Typ3 FB9 valves via SINEC L2. I have to change the control system: PLC device change to S7-412. Real promlems: cannot use the existing ET200U and Festo valves because they cannot communicate with a PROFIBUS DP Master only with SINEC L2 Device - this is a real experience from another project. I have to change the PLC to S7 without change these elements (ET200U and FESTO). Is there any solution to communicate with S7400 via SINEC L2? converters, special devices, cards, etc..... fritz Diamond Expert Joined: 10/7/2005 Last visit: 3/20/2025 Posts: 3042 Rating: (1061)	Hello ptamas you can use ET200U stations as "real' Profibus DP Slaves on an S7 as long as they support "DP-Norm Protocol" (which the 318-8MB11 does unfortunately not, so it depends on how your ET200U are). Beloware a fewFAQ's links for that subject which should help you in determing if it is possiblefor not: Coupling ET200U DP (6ES5 318 8MB12) to an S7 master Various PROFIBUS DP-Protocols for IM 318 Configuration of certain DP slaves is not possible in COM PROFIBUS V5.x(note, also applies to usage in Step 7) As for the Festo I/O station I'm afraid to say that you will need to check with Festo if they have a GSD file for it and if it can be used as a DP Slave. ptamas Advanced Member Joined: 5/7/2007 Last visit: 3/10/2023 Posts: 10 Rating: (1)	Thank you for your quick answers! - ET200U: unfortunately318-8MB11, I cannot use PROFIBUS DP - answer from FESTO: these valves don't work with PROFIBUS DP only with SINEC L2 2 years ago we had a similar project, but we could change the festo and ET200 to the right devices, but now it is not possible.... (Possible solution: change all ET200U and Festo valves -> the contractor won't have suck money for this) I need an other solution where I have to replace only the PLC not the entire system :( Any Tipps???? Tamas

Search theweb for 318-8MB12 or 13 IM's to replace your 318-8MB11 (you'll still need to replace the Festo I/O stationthough). 2.) Add an IM308C to your S5, make it a DP Slave of your S7 and have some very simple "Load/Transfer" logic left in your S5 CPU for data marshallingbetween thetheS7 andtheexisting SINEC L2 DP bus (i.e. the S5 becomes your "protocolconverter").
