SITOP UPS1600, PSU100S & PS307 Connection

torque Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Hi all. I have a a Siemens S7-314 CPU and a number of I/O modules. Powering the PLC is a PS307 120/230V (10A) PSU. As a fail safe, I also have a SITOP UPS, comprising of: - SITOP UPS1600 (10A) PSU -SITOP PSU100S 24V (5A) - SITOP UPS1100 Battery My issue is with connection between the SITOP PSU100S, UPS1600 and the PS307 PSU. My devices need around 8A, hence the 10A PS307 and UPS1600, but I was told that I could have a reduced size for the PSU100S, since it is only trickle charging I guess? Can anyone guide me to a connection diagram that shows the power connections for these 3 devices? I've since talked again to Siemens and they've suggested omitting the PS307 and powering the PSU direct from the PSU100S, but this will not have sufficient current for all of the devices that I was intending to supply. I have very seldom have to power my S7-300 systems with more than a 5A supply, even with multiple expansion racks and a few CPs and FMs. Do you plan on powering external equipment not on the CPU rack, such as power amplifiers or field sensors, from the main PS? I would suggest that you fuse the second power supply to provide power to these, and connect both the Sitop PS and the PS 307 to the UPS for protection. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier

torque Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Thanks for the advice. I'm thinking that is likely to be the route i'll take. I have a Moog valve that I will be supply, plus some pressure trandsucers. I'm thinking that I will supply these from the PSU100S and the CPU etc from the PS307. It's just the connections that I am confusing myself a little with, between those two devices and the UPS16000 and the UPS1100. So for the PS307, which is a 230Vac input and a 24Vdc output. Where do I run the failsafe 24Vdc from the PSU100S/UPS1100 to, so that I am not fighting the DC output of the PS307, if this makes sense? All of the 24Vdc outputs on the PS307 are isolated from one and other, correct?

dchartier Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 9/8/2024 Posts: 12282 Rating: (2682)	Hello torque; Have a look at the attached screenshot, taken from the SITOP UPS 1600 manual: SITOP UPS1600 / UPS1100 - Siemens Industry Online https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/view/84977415 Basically, the UPS 1600 expects a 24 V DC input to the UPS 1600, with the (one or more) battery modules connected in parallel. This is where your PS 307 should be brought in. The output of the UPS 1600 then feeds the load(s). How long the UPS will feed the loads depends on the current consumption of the equipment downstream of the UPS, and the total Ah rating of the battery module(s) connected to the UPS. A table of backup time vs load current can be found in section 7.3 of the manual. Note the description of the function blocks for TIA Portal and Step 7 v5.5, along with the software SITOP UPS manager, that can be integrated in your program for overview of the UPS functionalities throuhh the user program. torque Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Hi dchartier Many thanks for your detailed response, I really appreciate it. I completely understand what you are saying (I think). I'm still a little confused as to where the PSU100S fits in with this setup, as you have described in your answer, along with the picture from the 1600 manual, the PSU in this instance is the PS307? Does this make sense? I guess i'm asking is how to you connect in the PSU100S and the PS307 (in parallel I guess)?
