Slow performance when opening graphics on client Problem Slow performance when opening graphics on client. Setting up PDLCache on clients can help increase the speed of opening a graphic. This is primarily helpful in slow network environments. PDLCache Configuration See attached for screenshots. Purpose Setting up PDLCache on clients can help increase the speed of opening a graphic. This is primarily helpful in slow network environments. Requirements There are three options for setting up PDLCache. The cache can be used Always, Never, or Preferred. Always indicates that if the picture exists in the correct folder, it will always be used; even if a newer one exists on the OS Server. Never use the PDLCache. Preferred is the more complicated, and default, setting. It will use the picture, if it has a more current last modified than, or the same last modified as, the server. Procedure To use the Preferred mode no change is needed to the WinCC Project. To use the Always mode, a setting must be changed in the OS project. OS Project Setting Change Open WinCC Explorer and highlight Computer on the left. Then double click on the computer name on the right. On the Runtime tab is a dropdown to select Always, Preferred or None. Do not put anything in the “Path” field. Server Data Package Name To get the name of the Server Data Package go to WinCC Explorer and highlight Server Data. The Name on the right side of the window shows the name to be used for the folder. Operating System Change In Windows Explorer go to: C:\PROGRAM FILES\SIEMENS\WINCC\BIN\PDLCACHE Create a new folder which is named the same as the OS Server Data Package. Then place any PDL’s you wish to have stored locally in this folder. For example, all PDL’s that do not start with an @ could be placed in this folder, or just PDL’s that are very large could be placed in this folder. If a PDL does not exist in this folder, and needs to be opened from the server then it will go to the server to open it. Operation The folder in C:\PROGRAM FILES\SIEMENS\WINCC\BIN\PDLCACHE must exist prior to entering runtime with the client. Once in runtime graphics can be moved into, and out of, AttachmentConfiguration_Steps.pdf (750 Downloads) |
