SM331 HART Module, 4-20mA readings without HART

AhmetTan Experienced Member Joined: 3/17/2010 Last visit: 11/10/2023 Posts: 29 Rating: (0)	Hi everyone, I'm using IM153-2 on Profibus and SM331 HART Analog Input and SM332 HART Analog output module attached to it. I have a regular 4-20mA analog input without HART function. I know that I can read it with my SM331 HART module without using HART function. I directly connected my Analog deviceto the first channel of SM331. I measure 14mA on the line. But I read -32768 from the module as if nothing connected. Am I missing something? Do I need to make somehow a configuration for non-HART input? Do I need to configure anything on my channel (which is 4.0) Please see the attached images for my HWconfig and Parameter table. Look at this FAQ http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/22722557. It is very helpful. You also need to check if you really have a 2DMU (passive)and not a 4DMU (active).

I still can't read analog data from the channel. My question again; When I use HART Analog Input Module with a Non-HART signal, Do I need to make any configuration for this particular channel, or can I use it just "Plug and read" as in regular I/O modules? Thanks for your help in advance.

fritz Diamond Expert Joined: 10/7/2005 Last visit: 9/12/2024 Posts: 3020 Rating: (1054)	Hello AhmetTan While I can't give you any "hands on" based advise on this (haven't had the chance to "play" with Hart AI cards in S7 yet), I can tell you that the wiring rules for S7 Hart AI's cards have their own "rules" and are explained in the SIMATIC ET 200M distributed I/O device HART analog modulesmanual. You would most likely already have noticed that always all channelstogether are set toeither 2 wire or 4 wire mode (there's no "mix and match" possible) and since you decided on 2 wire,I wonder if you added the requriedjumper to bridge terminals10 & 11. I hope this helps

If you do not need any HART properties for your HART measuring transducers, then you must simply make sure that there is adequate interference frequency suppression on the analog input module. You achieve this by setting as much integration time as possible (at least 16 2/3 ms) for your analog input module. I think there is a mistake at your side, because of 2 and 4 wire transductor and parametration Definition of the different transducers: 4-wire measuring transducers have a separate power supply and two measuring cables that are connected to M+ and M- of the analog module. For this reason they are also called active measuring transducers. 2-wire measuring transducers are also called passive measuring transducers, because they are normally supplied via the analog module.

My configuration was 2 wire mode and there was a jumper between 10&11. I changed it to 4 wire mode and got the jumper off. It worked. I think I misunderstood 4 wire and 2 wire transducers concept. At very first, I know I tried 4 wire mode. I believe at that time something else was wrong. Anyway, it works very well now. And I appreciate for your help.
