SMEMA

Hi guys,

I am looking for the way how to convert SMEMA serial interface to something S7 readable. Have we got anything on S7-1200 for solving that? I found on internet something that hears on SEMI SMT-ELS interface name, but the material is available only in Japan, thus I don`t understand anything. Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes this download only Japanese

But, The new standard (Hermes) is TCP/IP- and XML-based and would replace the SMEMA standard that's been in effect for more than 20 years.

Yes Ahmed, that is true. SMEMA is a fairly old protocol, but the problem is that we have some devices that don’t speak Hermes. To achieve this, machines need to be upgraded with new software or even hardware. On some old machines this is simply not feasible and on some newer ones it probably would be, but the supplier isn`t much interested in it.

Yes Dchartier, this is the link I`ve addressed. Unfortunately if I go further everything is written in Japan and I ought to use a translater. I wanted to avoid this.

you can also use upgrade kits to have hermes within old smema legacy equipment. The main adavantage you can also solve the reinsert with this solution. Here you can check the details:
