I got the file snap7-full-1.4.2.7z from https://sourceforge.net/projects/snap7/files/ Followed the instruction from How do I install the snap7 library? - Entries - Forum - Industry Support - Siemens but I can't connect to a PLC ( I can ping and get a reply). Can somebody tell me how to do this snap7 installation, please? Kind regards

bergmanu Platinum Expert Joined: 4/28/2015 Last visit: 9/29/2023 Posts: 3261 Rating: (367)	Hi, I was able to install snap7 with the following steps: Copy snap7-iot-arm-1.4.2.tar.gz to the IOT2050 tar xzf snap7-iot-arm-1.4.2.tar.gz cd snap7-iot-arm-1.4.2/build/unix make -f arm_v7_x64_linux.mk install ldconfig If logged as user instead of root, you need to use sudo for the commands above. With those steps the snap7 library is installed. To use it with python you need to install pip3 and python-snap7: apt install python3-pip pip3 install python-snap7 To test the connection to a PLC and read an integer value, you can use the commands in the attached screenshot. plc.connect('192.168.200.74', 0, 1): PLC address has the IP 192.168.200.74 with Rack0 and Slot 1 (default for S7-1500) reading = plc.db_read(1, 2, 2): Read DB1, 2 Bytes (Int) from Offset 2. The steps • Copy snap7-iot-arm-1.4.2.tar.gz to the IOT2050 • tar xzf snap7-iot-arm-1.4.2.tar.gz • cd snap7-iot-arm-1.4.2 /build/unix • make -f arm_v7_x64_linux.mk install worked except I had to use sudo make -f arm_v7_x64_linux.mk install as the file libsnap7.so is not copied to /usr/lib Now the • apt install python3-pip • pip3 install python-snap7 had to be with sudo also or else I get PermissionError: [Error 13] Permission denied … sudo pip3 list shows all python libs installed on the IOT2050 including the python-snap7 running pyhton with sudo sudo pythons3 Python 3.7.3 (default, Jan 22 2021, 20:04:44) [GCC 8.3.0] on linux >>> import snap7 >>> plc = snap7.client.Client() Traceback (most recent call last): File “<stdin>”, line 1, in <module> File “/usr/local/lib/python3.7/dist-packages/snap7/client.py”, line 66, in __init__ self._library = load_library(lib_location) File “/usr/local/lib/python3.7/dist-packages/snap7/common.py”, line 75, in load_library return Snap7Library(lib_location).cdll File “/usr/local/lib/python3.7/dist-packages/snap7/client.py”, line 66, in __init__ raise Snap7Exception(msg) Snap7.exceptions.Snap7Exception: can’t find snap7 library. If installed, try running ldconfig I have run sudo ldconfig Now the snap7 library is working correctly. Just one small question the default python version that comes with the IOT2050 installation is 3.7.3. I could see from the attached image you running python 3.9.2. Is there any IOT2050 image ready with python 3.9.2 on it? Many thanks for your help.

And I forgot to mention ldconfig, thanks! I edit my last post. I was using Example Image V1.2.1, which is about to come the next days hopefully. This has python 3.9. Best regards!
