Hello storm; For basic information on the IEC, look here, for example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Electrotechnical_Commission All you need to know now is that it is a standards body, they setup, promote and accredit common practices among electrical industries. One of their standards is IEC 61131-3, related to PLC programming (see the link "IEC standards" in the Wikipedia page above). So when a PLC manufacturer states that he is producing IEC code, he means that it complies with the IEC 61131-3 standard (well, sometimes not quite fully....). You will find three IEC times in the System Function Block library, SFB3, SFB4, SFB5. The online help of Step 7 (click on the SFC and press F!) will explain howeach oneworks and how to use it in your program. Software Redundancy will only work if you use these IEC timers (and tell the program how many you plan to use) Hope this helps. Daniel Chartier |
