Situation:an NTP server on a LAN with a few scalance X-300 switches. The switches are currently configured to poll the NTP server. This works fine. There is also the option to LISTEN instead of POLL. This LISTEN optionis supported since firmware update 3.0.0 according to this post: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/36641428 The NTP server is configuredto broadcast it's time. This requires authentication (MD5 keys in this case). These MD5 keys haveto be copied to the sntp keys files on the scalance switches... But how can I do this? |

Hi cajac, you can't do this; the X-300 do not support encrypted sntp. Regards, Rated X |

The manual from my ntp server states: "Please note that NTP version 4 only permits authenticated broadcast mode" However, since you seem to have some doubtsabout this requirement I looked intheNTP 4.2.0 documentation which states it 'should be' authenticated ... http://doc.ntp.org/4.2.0/assoc.html
so maybe it should be possible after all If so, the question remains: How do I set up the listen mode with NTP v4 (and no authentication) on a scalance X 300switch? |

I was able to get it working. After disabling authentication on the NTP server and changing the broadcast address. |
