Specifics about connection between programming laptop and 315 CPU

Nor'Easter Posts: 18 Rating: (0)	I have been searching, and found some related threads, but was not able to be sure I understood. So, I am posting this question here. I have been working on a project using 315-2 DP processors. Each CPU was paired with a CP 343-1 module. I am running my S7 programming environment (SIMATIC Manager, Step 7, etc) on a laptop running Windows XP. In this scenario, I have been able to set my PG/PC interface such that I was communicating via the ethernet card on my laptop, and this allowed me to connect to the PLCs via their CP 343-1 modules. I will now be working a new project, using the same laptop and software, but different SIEMENS hardware. I will now be using a 315-2 PN/DP processor, with no other communication modules (i.e. no CP 343-1). Will I be able to communicate in the same fashion? In other words, can I simply connect my laptop's ethernet port to the PN port of the CPU using a standard ethernet cable and expect to be able to upload, download, go online, etc.? I don't expect to be able to reuse code. I expect to have to utilize different FBs on the 315-2 PN/DP as compared with the 315-2 DP. I am here only concerned with the communications between my laptop and the CPU. Thanks! -ne

Hormeda Posts: 13 Rating: (8)	Dear Nor'Easter, You can to programming with Step7 and 315-2 PN/DP through PN port the same way that the CP315 + CP343-1. Notes: Step7 version to configure 315-2 PN/DP (http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/38727042 - “Configuration” topic)
