Darius Platinum Member Joined: 9/28/2005 Last visit: 12/3/2024 Posts: 2957 Rating: (243)	Hello, I have tried to install reporting services along with SQL 2005, but had a problem that there is no reporting services available with SQL 2005. These services are free if you buy SQL 2005 (according to Microsoft). So I buy WinCC and pay for SQL which comes with WinCC, but I can't have free tools I have asked Siemens support about it and they just said that they permanently removed reporting services from SQL installation. So maybe some one somehow had installed reporting services back to SQL 2005 ? How to do it ? If you have some experience with it please share it here. Thanks in advance. Regards, Darius

April Posts: 1776 Rating: (95)	Hi, SQL is customized for WinCC and it is not allowed to change the customized SQL. If you change it its not guarantied that WinCC works always 100% with SQL

Krish Silver Member Joined: 5/24/2007 Last visit: 4/24/2024 Posts: 284 Rating: (27)	Hi Darius Like it or not MSSql is sold to you with WinCC in the configuration determined by Siemens which unfortunately does not contain certain services which you want. In fact the version provided by Siemens will install only with a particular instance name. You can do some work around them. But then you are violating the Siemens agreements. If you are trying to do some database actvities with connectivity options you are again violating the rules. I don´t like it. But that is how it is.

The fact is that I'm developing system with reports and the main thing is license agreement. So I need to do everything I need and don't violate any licenses. So I was confused by Siemens support which said that if I want these reporting services I need to contact Microsoft. Also I have looked at licenseb.txt file located on WinCC SQL DVD. There is said that I can use reporting services, but this is Microsoft's license file. So I'm totaly confused. I thought that by using SQL server I must agree with Microsoft license, not Siemens. Please someone make me clear these license things. What can I do and what I can't ? All I need is not to violate any licenses. Thanks in advance. Regards,

It should read "If you are trying to do some database actvities without connectivity options you are again violating the rules". Once you have the connectivity option you are allowed to use OLEDB acess to the database/server and a lot more freedom. This is what they say in their ad. " Transparent OLE DB Access With the option Connectivity Pack, an access to WinCC data via OPC A&E, OPC HDA and OLE DB is possible. With the Connectivity Pack V6.2 it is possible to also access WinCC server data from a client with its own project via OLE DB. For process values, this access takes place transparently, i.e. the requested process data is automatically compiled from the archive databases - independent of the current distribution of the data by redundancy or central archiving. So then on I guess it can add whatever software you want to connect to the database.

So I buy WinCC with SQL server and buy Connectivity Pack to get data from SQL. So I don't want to use SQL server for my purposes, I only want to get data from SQL. Reporting tools is some handy FREE tool by Microsoft to handle data which I got from Siemens. If I need to put my own data somewhere I can easily install SQL Express which is again free. So if I add reporting tools I would not violate any license, but I can't find a way to add reporting tools to SQL installation. If I get other SQL CD and install reporting toold from it I think it would be license violation. Guys from Siemens support don't mind if I install reporting tools, but they just do not support it. The main question remains how to get reporting tools installed to SQL server. Regards,

And as I remember it will be license violation between you and Microsoft.
