Hello simaticmanager;
I could suggest the web... http://www.sensorland.com/HowPage021.html for explanations on the required signals.
Siemens SSI encoder usable with FM 351:https://www.automation.siemens.com/simatic/regelsysteme/html_76/produkte/gebertypen.htm You can of course use SSI encoders from other manufacturer, if they respect the SSI standard they should work with the FM 351. Most of the answers to your questions you will find here: From the FM 351 manual http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/2103043 Ch. 10: Encoders Connectable Absolute EncodersAbsolute encoders with a serial interface are supported. Position information is transferred synchronously using the SSI protocol (synchronous serial interface). The FM 351 supports only GRAY code. Due to the arrangement of the data bits in the transferred frames, the data formats 25-bit (“fir tree”), and 13-bit (“half fir tree”) are used.
Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |
