SSI Abs Encoder With FM 351

simaticmanager Posts: 150 Rating: (5)	dear all, I mworkingon FM351 (6es7-351-1ah01-0ae0) and this is my first experience on the same. In the present system 24v incremental encoder is used for linear shaft.But the present system is problamatic as manual homing is required. as a solution I want to replace the incremental encoder by ssi absolute encoder. pls any one can suggest wht will be needed to change besides FM configuration and also i dont know much about ssi absolute encoder,, how many wires will be connected from encoder to the fm module,,, is there any 2 wire communication will be possible bet fm and encoder, pls suggest where i can get these info and also about ssi interface (what is ssi interface?) If backup of current systemis required for ref i can provide thnks in advance simatic manager

Position information is transferred synchronously using the SSI protocol (synchronous serial interface). The FM 351 supports only GRAY code. Due to the arrangement of the data bits in the transferred frames, the data formats 25-bit (“fir tree”), and 13-bit (“half fir tree”) are used. Look at Ch.4: Wiring the FM 351 for details on the connection of an SSI encoder to either of the 2 available channels. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier
