Hi Timbo from the UK, For the rights you must have, please see the FAQ: Standard user and administrator rights in Windows NT/XP/2000 for working with STEP 5 V7.2 STEP5 V7.23 is the newest, I have only some slowedown when I am starting STEP5 but after that it works fine. There is also the autoexec.nt which is in the properties of the STEP5-icon, there you have to check if this file is still there, I have seen that this file is throw away by other programs and then you get trouble with STEP5. Have you installed other programs then the one that where on the PG? A complete new install of the PG with the recovery CDs is advisible when you come no further. |
I hope that the answer will help, if you have still questions, don't hesitate to ask me. |

Hi Timbo, Best config is: Step5 V7.23 + HF1 (the about box shows the date 15.03.04 in german version) Downloads: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/10805348/133100 In the properties of the shortcut icon to Step5 try the following: Use "Compatibility Mode for Windows 95". Play with the"Idle sensitivity" slider. Good luck Manfred |

Thanks for the advice so far. Firstly all users of S5 have admin rights on the PG We have STEP 5/ST Basic V7.23 (11/11/03) I have the autoexec.nt file in C:\WINDOWS\repair; AUTOEXEC.NT_ in C:\I386 & AUTOEXEC.NT in C:\WINDOWS\system32. I assume that the file in C:\I386 is the one used: @echo off REM AUTOEXEC.BAT is not used to initialize the MS-DOS environment. REM Install CD ROM extensions REM Install network redirector (load before dosx.exe) REM Install DPMI support REM The following line enables Sound Blaster 2.0 support on NTVDM. REM To disable the sound blaster 2.0 support on NTVDM, specify an invalid |

Hi Timbo, When a license is defect you can repair it! The cable is ok. Do you have also installed software of other PLCs on your PC? These are the files that I mentioned, I don't have my FieldPG the last time I give you the answer. C:\SIEMENS\STEP5\S5_HOME\S5NT.BAT %SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32\CONFIG.NT You may find it in the STEP5 Properties, Tab Program, Advanced..... I have placed both of them in the Attachement. When also other software is installed then it might be overwritten, with my FieldPG I have to wait a little time the first time I am starting but after that it is working ok. If you have the latest STEP5 software then you might have already HF1, when not then download it from;Hotfix 1 for STEP 5 V7.23 AttachmentS5.zip (456 Downloads) |
I hope that the answer will help, if you have still questions, don't hesitate to ask me. |

This PG has always been very very slow with S5 since new. But I will try it. We are starting to wish we had just bought a Panasonic Toughbook instead! |
