Step 7 updating UDT in FB

Iwein Posts: 41 Rating: (0)	Hi, who can help me with this question: If you make an FB with an UDT in the header, and you update the UDT with some new variables, what is then the quickest way to update the UDT in the header of your FB, so you can use the new variables you've just entered. I hope it's possible to do this without closing or saving the FB? Thanks in advance... Iwein

I hope it's possible to do this without closing or saving the FB? How do you update invalid block calls (time stamp conflicts) in calling blocks? If you make changes to a block which is called in another block, or if you change a UDT definition which is used in a DB, FC, FB or in another UDT, this gives rise to a time stamp conflict. The time stamps (code and interface time stamp of the blocks) are used to monitor consistency in the STEP 7 program. Iwein Posts: 41 Rating: (0)	Thanks for the reply, but I think you don't follow my problem truly. I'll explain myself better... If you follow these steps carefully, you will see what I mean: - make an FB in which you can make your program. - make an UDT which you call for example "robot". Put already some variables in the UDT. - if you now make a declaration in the FB for this UDT "robot" at the IN/OUT parameters of the FB, the declaration will be visible at the header of the FB and you can see all the variables in the header. - now (WITHOUT CLOSING any FB or UDT !!!!! ) change some names of the variables in the UDT. How can you now see and use these new variables in the FB you are programming. If you save the FB again, you will see the time stamp conflict, and then you can click RMB to "update declaration", which updates the UDT declaration, but not the variables in the UDT. You still cannot access the new variables, with there new names. Or is this something that only I have? Could it be a problem of my laptop (installation)? Thanks Iwein

Any better way is appreciated. regards

Iwein Posts: 41 Rating: (0)	Correct, if you change an existing name. But for example if you extend the UDT and add 8 new booleans? Than I cannot access the 8 new booleans... Can you do that? Then there's a problem with my installation. Although, I have already Step 7 v5.5 Iwein

If you want to use the new structure of the UDT you have to open the editor, where you will engineer your programm again. The structure of the udt will be "loaded" with the open process of the editor (in SCL after compilation).

I did just the same steps as you did: - open UDT and make changes - save UDT - click check and update access in UDT - save FB => error ackn - click check and update access in FB Result : no update of the declaration of the UDT in my FB. The only difference that I can see, is that in my case I used the UDT as an IN/OUT parameter in stead of an STAT. But could that make any difference? The only thing that I can do to make this happen, is to delete the declaration of the UDT in the header and declare it one again. Thank you... Iwein
