Hello UMENCHO, ha ha!! waiting for hands on as it is getting downloaded now. I have it downloaded, but the system requirements require Win7-64 SP1 and I'm only Win7-64. SP1 fails during install, so I can't start testing V12. What's odd is you can use V11 projects in V12 and you can get online with V11 programmed PLCs in V12, but the moment your V12 opens the V11 project, V11 can never properly use the project again. This should pop up in the dialog to alert you that continuing will prevent V11 from ever accessing the project again..... Can someone post a screenshot of what happens when V12 accesses a V11 project? I support some new-to-S7 engineers and knowing these little tidbits really matters.

Hello huggy_d1, This interoperability is part of TIA Portal v12. You can open the v11 projects in v12 and now you have two options. Either to work in Compatibility mode or to convert it into a v12 project (which can no longer be used with v11) Whereas in compatibility mode you can open, view, edit / modify the v11 project in v12 and the same edited / modified project can now also be opened with v11.

Worse still, if someone wants to use the V11 projectto download updates to thePLCprogramming using V11, they have to reset the plc to factory defaults, then download the project. This is not difficult conceptually. However, in my group where most are not PLC-friendly, these extra steps just slow down acceptance even further.

Hello huggy_d1, Ideally when there is a compatibility mode in v12 it will also support the v11 based download (in my opinion). Where there should not be a necessity to perform a Factory Reset. (anyhow let's get this clarified once the manual is published)

(anyhow let's get this clarified once the manual is published) From the manual, dated 01/13, section Step 7 Basic, Notes on Use Loading project data with TIA Portal V11 and V12 (S7-1200) If you load the project data of an S7-1200 CPU with the TIA Portal V12, you can no longer use TIA Portal V11 to access this data. To do this, first restore the factory settings of the CPU. Read the additional information on this in the online help under "How to reset a CPU to factory settings". Compatibility The device configuration and program of an S7-1200 CPU must always be configured with the same STEP 7 version. Generally, the TIA Portal makes sure that no version conflicts occur by generating corresponding messages when loading to the device. This automatic verification is not possible with S7-1200 CPUs with firmware version V1.x. In this case, users themselves must ensure that no version conflicts occur. Be careful.
