STEP 7 V5.5 - problems with "assign device name" for PROFINET IM

azi1984 Advanced Member Joined: 12/21/2009 Last visit: 8/17/2022 Posts: 39 Rating: (3)	Hi all, Using IMs on PROFINET I am using option PLC/Ethernet/AssignDeviceName to assign device names to my IMs in order to enable PLC to communicate with them. Last time when I was doing this I had a problem. It turned out that this option is not working in my new STEP 7 V5.5. I checked with STEP 7 V5.4 and everything is working properly with older STEP7. Is this a common problem? Is this possible to solve this problem? How? Thanks for Your help. azi1984

Could you provide some screenshots, if possible? How are your settings for the online interface in STEP7? Do you have other SIMATIC Software installed on this PC, if so please note which... Which OS is installed, in case of XP please tell us the SP #. I would say this is all for the start. Best regards J_Bell

In Attachement You can find two folders. In one folder - V5.4 are screenshots from PC where is STEP V5.4 installed - as You can see everything is OK - I can see PROFINET nodes and assign names to them. On this computer I have also WinCC flexible 2007. In another folder - V5.5 are screenshots from PC where is STEP V5.5 installed - as You can see nothing is OK - I cannot see PROFINET nodes and I cannot assign names to them. On this computer I have also WinCC flexible 2008 SP2 installed. As You can see from screenshots OS is the same: Windows XP Proffesional SP3 I hope that You can find out where is the problem with this information. Chilly_Garfield Posts: 316 Rating: (37)	Hi azi1984, I think you have no connection. That's the reason that you can't see the device. Make a ping toa member of the network. Have you check your IP subnet mask? What's with your firewall? For problem solution please deactivate this. Have you a router or other network element in your build up, that can increase the safety of the net work(e.g. MAC filter)?

I don't have any router that filter MAC adresses. I checked another computer: Windows 7 + firewall + virus scanner + STEP 7 V5.5 = everything is working. On my XP Prof SP3 + STEP 7 V5.5 is still this problem. azi1984

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (411)	Dear azi1984, well... I am not sure but I have hared that there is a Hotfix that may solve your issue. The point here is that this fix has been, as far as I know, withdrawn by SIEMENS. I know there ought to be a new one at the end of March or so... butI am notsure. Maybe you contact the international customer supportabout this. I hope you will find a solution, fast. Best regards J_Bell

HW Config The function "Save and Compile" with activated CPU web server now runs faster. The upload functionality of the hardware components "SCALANCE X414 V3.0" and "ET 200M" has been improved. The download functionality of a station with CPU 400 as of V6.0 and Shared Device capable device with output module has been improved. The compatibility with V1.0 GSDML files has been expanded. Working with submodules via the command interface has been improved. The frame planning with synchronized stations has been optimized. The use of a CP1616, CP1616 onboard or a CP1604 is possible with firmware version V2.5. When using a CP1616, CP1616 onboard or CP1604 as of firmware version V2.4, the IO device link using the IO device description of a third-party vendor is possible. The "Edit Ethernet Node" function when using a terminal adapter has been improved. As of this Hotfix: The assignment of process image partitions (PIP) in the PROFIBUS and PROFINET environments has been improved. As of this Hotfix: The use of GSDML files has been optimized. As of this Hotfix: The function "Upload to PG" has been improved for compact CPUs. Report System Errors Optimized creation of messages The optimized creation of messages significantly reduces the creation time and number of message instances. This optimization is the default setting. You can still use the old procedure by deselecting the new option "Optimized creation of messages" in the "Messages" tab of the "Report System Error" dialog box. Note: You should always delete all blocks with the "SFM" programming language prior to generation when you change from the old procedure to the optimized creation of messages.
