Step5 can't communicate with TK858 in Winxp

I am trying to go online with a S5 CPU over a teleservice. I am usingWinXP with Step5 ver7.23 on my laptopand COM1 is connected toa TK858 but it will not establish a connection to the CPU. The send and receive LED on the modem U-336s will lite up briefly, but the link will not be established. If I boot up the laptop in DOS and run the same Step5 version, then it will work fine and connect over the TK858. Any idea what I need to do to get it to work from WinXP?

Thanks for your response. Unfortunatly I don't have a PLC available to go online locally. I am pretty sure that the Step5 settings for COM1 is correct, because if Idual boot my computer in MSDOS and use the same installed Step5 program then I can go online with the CPU over the modem without a problem. I also tried to start WinXP in diagnostic mode with only the basic devices and it does the same thing. It doesn't look likethat another program is blocking my COM1 port.If I try to go online I can see that the modem sends about 70 bits or bytes and receives 20 but that is as far as it will go. I suspect that that there is some setting in WinXP or Step5 I am missing since Siemens says that this version 7.23 is for WinXP. I was just wondering if there is anybody else using Step5 in WinXP with teleservicing over a TK858 and actually getting it to work.

No, I had not installed it on WinXP before, since I only recently got a version that should work with XP. I get my regular security updates for XP, did you have any specifc information about which updated would cause a problem?

Yes I have downloaded all the updates and also installed the lastest hotfix for 7.23.
