STEP5 SIMATIC S5 CONNECTION

Hi, I have  a siemens S5  with CPU 928b,  when I tried to connect  with step 5 to my computer, I receive this message <<indefinite character of the coupler >> and there is no connection with my computer

I use RS232 to TTY interface.

I want to know if there somethink that I nedd to configurate before

What type of interface?

You select the correct COM port?

What S5 version?

What OS version?

yes my computer has just 1 com port (COM1)

the version is S5-135U/155U,   cpu 928B

OS  is windows XP (sweet)

cable is PC/TTY (RS232 to TTY interface).

I want also to nkown if there is some driver to install

 if it is your 1st time using this PC to communicate with S5-135U, please take pictures of you cable+ adopter in detail.

As I know normal PC com1 to S5 CPU , you not only need cable but also need converter (RS232-->TTY).

some cable with one side 15 pins big connector--converter is inside. so you need post picture , I can see to make sure for you.

I have S5 sw in Laptop (OS Win XP) using the cable with adopter to connect 115U , 100U and 95U cup, working very good.

Do you use Siemens PG740 or PG685 or Filed PG

These kind of programming device connecting to S5 CPU using direct cable but it is TTY

no need converter

I have the same problem with Step 5, but I do not have a rs232 port, I'm using a USB converter - Serial, does that have a problem?

The error that shows step 5 is "Indefinite character from AS",

I would be grateful if anyone could give me a hand

Dear All

I have P4 Laptop with builtin Serial Port. i installed Original S5 Software with Yellow Disks. i Connect directly DB9(PC-Side)-DB25 (Machine Side). I run Step5 software and then i can easily online without any error.
