A_Taher Posts: 34 Rating: (1)	Dear forum colleagues ; I want to use WinCC flexible with step5 controller.WinCC flexible runtime will be installed on a pc station and i have a CP ( 6ES5544-3UB11) mounted with S5 CPU.I want to make sure that i can communicate directly serial (RS232) from the serial port of the PC to CP ? Thank you.

If you use WinCC Flexibel Runtime on a PC, you can use the RK512 ( Default ) or the 3964R Protocol of your CP544 Card. Youcan get a OPC Server / Hardware that willhandle the communication viathe Serial Port from differnt 3 party vendors. The otherroute, with out using the CP544 would be to use the Programming port with the AS511 Protocoll. Same here you can get a OPC Server / Hardarethat will get the data for you. The method I preferd, if you do not have a CP Cardinstalled, was to connect direct via the programming port using the AS511 protocol, until Siemens decided tostop makingPanels with the intergrated communiation port( IF1 Serial ).

A_Taher Posts: 34 Rating: (1)	Thank you for ur interest ...If i connected the WinCC flexible runtime to the CP via RS232 (which already connected now to the old SCADA Intouch via RS232)...then how can i get the opc server to be installed on the PC station..?? on the other side ,,,if i neglected the existing CP then i think i will need RS232/TTY converter to connect directly to the CPU programming port..right ??

If you are using thesame PC you just have to point to the Server in your WinCCcommunication setup. A_Taher Posts: 34 Rating: (1)	My dear friend; This OPC server is intended for use with Siemens S5 PLCs communicating via the front programming port using AS511 protocol and i found another OPC servers also are the same.so i think there is no need to use the OPC server as it won't help.so i think i just need the RS232/TTYconverter and connect to the programming port directly as AS511 is supported by WinCC flexible...are u with me ??

Wincc Flexible when used on a PC supports the AS511 Protocolvia the serial port. I was assumingyou would install the opc server so you can seeaccess the PLC Data from other PC Stations.
