We have 2 PLC program from our supplier as per below.

1. Made on Step 7 5.5

2. Made on Step 7 TIA V15.1

We want to buy a software to use and see the program.

Which software to buy?

Can we buy Step7 Combo ? or need to Step7 Combo & Step7 V5 also ?

for migration, also a installation of STEP 7 classic (and all optional software packages used in classic project) are needed as a precondition.

Only TIA for migration, is not enough. But you can also use trial version of STEP 7 classic for migration to TIA.

But if you want to migrate another project after the trial period has ended, it will not be possible anymore.

If you want to migrate a project to TIA, and classic is not installed on this system, you will receive an error message.

You can use migration tool instead on an other system, but then classic also must be installed on the other system.

What are the requirements for migrating a STEP 7 V5.x project to STEP 7 Professional (TIA Portal)?

 "The software components listed below must be installed on the computer on which you wish to perform the migration:

• STEP 7 Professional (TIA Portal) V11 or higher
• STEP 7 V5.4+SP5 or higher with associated license (US)
• All STEP 7 options packages which will be used in the projects to be migrated"

The "combo" license includes STEP7 classic, so it is not necessary to buy a "combo" license and a sencond license for classic.
