Step7 & USB problem

Clau Posts: 28 Rating: (0)	Hello everybody! I have an issue that I want to discuss. Two weeks ago, Ihave installed Step 7 on a computer. After installation, I had a strange problem withUSB ports: although nothing was plugged in, windows showed that an unknown devicewas present. Aftermore "Enabling and Disabling", "Installing and Uninstalling" stuffs in Windows Device Manager, the USB ports worked properly again (actually I don't know for sure what I did). Now, I have installed Step 7 on another computer (same configuration as the one above). After installation, I experienced the same problem: unknown device present, more precisely"USB device not recognized", but now I can't handle it.The system worked fine untilSTEP7 installation (including USB ports)for more than 1 month. The big problem is that allUSB ports are dead. Did someone experience the same problem? Is this problem related to Step 7 installation? Best regards, Clau

You have not described which STEP 7 version and which operating system (Windows XP or 2000)is installed. We think it is an incompatibility possible between STEP 7 and the Windows operating system or with an installed optional packed. Clau Posts: 28 Rating: (0)	Hello Cicero, Both computers have the same hardware configuration (Intel P4, 3.2 GHz, 1GB RAM, 2 RAID HDDs, Intel MB). Also, both computers are equipped with CP5613 A2 cardfor Profibus connection. Regarding software, Windows XP Professional with SP2is installed on both PCs and S7 V5.3+SP3 on the first computer andS7 V5.4+SP on the other. I want to mention that I alsohave installed S7 V5.3+SP3 on a third computer and I didn't experience any problem with USB ports, the only difference being that the third computer didn't haveCP5613 A2 cardfor Profibus installed. Could this problem appear because ofProfibuscard (CP5613)? Best wishes, Clau

Late Platinum Expert Joined: 1/7/2006 Last visit: 2/16/2023 Posts: 2705 Rating: (311)	Dear Clau, I working from the beginning of STEP7 V1.0 with STEP7 and I had never have trouble with the USB-ports on I think more then 20 differnet PCs. Esspecially because STEP7 have standard no USB installed, if you want to use the USB cable then there must be some installing. So I think it have something to do with the hardware of your computer. What kind of computer is it and are the three computers from the hardware seen the same? It is easy to try out if the computer with the SIMATIC NET installed are making the trouble. Deinstall the CP5613 and the NET-Software, boot new and look if the USB ports are working.
