Please have a look to IEC Library in STEP 7 (ad even you can find the same in TIA Portal) FC21,FC20,FC32,FC26,FC2,FC17,FC31,FC4,FC16,FC11,FC5,FC39, FC37,FC38,FC30. You will find all STRING-related functions and use the online manual(selecting the function-->F1) for more help and samples.Also, with indirect addressing you can do what you want in a STRING.
