I am using WinCC RTAdvanced on a simple PC

I wish to know if any other preparation is needed before using the ShowSystemAlarm() function.

I have used the ShowSystemAlarm <"Text to display"> inside User Defined VBS functions.. but I have'nt seen any message so far

Even this one line function I haven't got working right.. 

Sub ButnPress()

Dim bit

bit = SmartTags("Test_Butn") 'Test_Butn is the discrete tag switched true with a button 

If bit = TRUE then

ShowSystemAlarm "You Pressed the Button"

End If 

End

I accept that I am not very bright.. but if you could help me with this I'd be truly grateful

The Code is OK

You only have to configurate the System Alarm options during the configuration of the HMI in TIA.

(Time, etc...)

Still this technique of ShowSystemAlarm <String> works only inside an alarm display!

So we have to have a tag that renders this invisible when not needed. That is my problem now. Why not develop a message-box like face-plate to which we can pass a string argument? To begin with, my purpose was to have a Text-message pop up whenever there is an error in the VBScript being executed.

 in this case you can use an ouput-field with internal tags for the process value and the visibility. In the script you write the message text to the tag and set the visibility-bit. Then you need an action for resetting the visibility.

Thanks for your response. It has come at time when I need it most!

As I'm a newbie, I've still not understood how to use an internal tag for which a variable value or perhaps how even different tags of type "string"  could be passed on to a face-plate.

In other words..If I understood you correctly..First I make a small screen in which I have a output-field to display the value of a string tag + a button to reset the visibility of this screen.

From script, when needed, I assign the value of the string tag and switch on the visibility tag right?

No need for making a face-plate is it?
