STUPID QUESTION

GOSUN Posts: 1 Rating: (0)	Hello, I am new and i want to start learning PLC i buy some S7-400 cpu and i have 6GK1561.. card on my PC. Now i don't know how to build the cabal to connect this two things :) Ok i want to build MPI connection and i know that i need MPI cabal to connect this. if i understand correctly, for MPI a need 3 wire but i found a three differente shemas and pin assignment so i don't know how and where i can find more informations about this. I have 2 DB9 male connectors and i have a cable but i need instructions how to connect this corectly. One of 3 shemas i have is: 5 - 5, 3 - 2, 2 - 3 sorry on my bad english and thanks

neo Posts: 264 Rating: (59)	Hello Gosun, Check this FAQ containing the exactly assignment for MPI: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/3001321 Some Years ago I tried to establish a connection with a 1:1 Cable (All Pins 1:1 connected between the connectors) Your shema 5-5, 3-2, 2-3 is a cable for RS232 serial connection (crossover) best regards..

I think the answers shown say it nearly all... sometimes it is just alsoneeded to have the 24 V DC Power on the CP Interface too, therefore the MPI Cable would be useful. One thing I would like to add, please keep the line short, because if you would exceed maybe 5 m the MPI network also requires termination, there the usual 9pin sub D connectors are not sufficient. Also a baudrate above 187,5 kBit is not recommendable. Best regards J_Bell
