Suitable Simatic NET product

kasun Posts: 28 Rating: (1)	Hi all, I want to use the ethernet card which comes onboard with the PC motherboard for S7 communication with OPC server. And I hope to use Windows 2003 server version as my platform for OPC server. Which Simatic NET product you guys recommend to achieve my purpose.

Hello kasun,

When you want to use internal ethernet card of PC, you can buy Softnet S7-lean

bunglehead Posts: 54 Rating: (3)	It's interesting for me too. When do you recommend to use CP1613 instead of general NIC? Where can I read about measure of performance achieved by those IO cards.? I didn't find anything about a "deadband" of IO count in which using of CP doesn't result in better performance.

bunglehead Posts: 54 Rating: (3)	Thanks, this is very useful summary..but my question is first of all about performance. i mean something like an average update rate in item/sec for given item quantity for example and 100 MB Eth (or a guaranteed update rate for given number of items with proposal of collision free network). It'll be interesting to see performance test results. cause I think that offer expensive hard@soft isn't very smart when it is not used (in my case 8 simultaneous connection is often a practical limit)
