tutku_dalmaz Posts: 16 Rating: (0)	Hi everyone, I'm new to WinCC and i've been developing basic control system. In my project my main PLC and Remote PLC are communicate via PROFIBUS. I wonder that, under WinCC's Tag Management section, for remote PLC's signals do i have to use PROFIBUS part or do i have to use MPI part. I've tried it via PLCSIM both of them works, and i confused. Could you please help me? Thanks for your interests.

trigger Posts: 16 Rating: (1)	Hi, I am not an expert in these topics but what I know is that MPI connection is practical in connectionsfor short distances (less than 50 metres.) Otherwise you have to use signal amplifiers. But Profibus connections have usages in long distances (kilometres).

Danielle Posts: 1275 Rating: (123)	Hi, Trigger's right there! The protocols are kinda different, so you should evaluate and pick the one that suits your need better! There are differences in the transmission rate, distance, etc... (e.g. you could use fiber optics to reach a longer distance in DP, but depending on the case there may be complications in a DP network caused by other elements in the same network, like drives)... You can find a lot of info on both protocols on this site... Best regards, Danielle
