TCP communication between CPU 317-2 PN/DP and a printer with

antonius_H Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	I'm now trying to set up the communication between the PN interface of CPU 317-2 PN/DP and the Ethernet interface of a printer, using FB63, 64, 65, 66. However, I've got problem during the first step... I used the Sample_open_TCP. When calling FB65 TCON, the status output of TCON is always B#16#7000, which means no job processing active, according to the "help". My idea is that, there could be two possibilities which may cause this problem: 1. We need some kind of response from the Printer to set up the connection, since the "help" of TCON says only if two communication partners call the FB65 the connection can be established. 2. The port of the printer is 9100, which is larger than 5000. However probably this is unlikely the reason, because otherwise the status would be different from 7000. Couldanyone help me with this problem? Or are there any other reason lead to such status? I'm so desparate... million thanks in advance!

antonius_H Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	We thought of this communication between a PLC integratedPN interfaceand a standard office device is based on the fact that they both communicate in TCP/IP protocol. Also asked Siemens support before,they said it's possible using communication FBs like FB63, FB64 and so on to realise it. hope somebody, especiallywho had former experience can give me some advices. thanks.

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (411)	Dear antonius, I would say I see two problems. The first one is the one you already mentioned. The Port 9100 is far outside the possible range of Ports available for the "older" CPUs of the S7-31X (up to V 2.6). If you have a CPU of the Version 2.7 or above you may use the Ports 1 - 49151. So I would strongly recommend the use of the latest CPU version. If we think about the Protocol being used with Network printer I fear that they do not use basic TCP/IP. Some samples for printer-protocols I found on the net is: the IPP (Internet Printing Protocol), the System V printing system, Berkeley Printing System Common Unix Printing System Printer services on Windows ... But I leave this up to you. Best regards J_Bell

About the protocol, according to the manual of this printer,the transmission protocol of its Ethernet 10/100 interface is exactly TCP/IP. We are using a label printer, which is mostly used in industrial senario, therefore probably a little bit different from most office devices.

antonius_H Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	I've changed the port of the printer into 3001, which is in the range of 2000-5000. Yet, it still doesn't work. The status of FB65 TCON is still 0x7000, no connection is established. I set my station online, and then checked the PN interface of CPU in the hardware configuration, the network connection is OK, the CPU has also sent and received some packages without error. Are there any other parts could go wrong? Thank you.

antonius_H Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	Finally, everything worked out! For everybody's information, the reasons for the whole problem are the two below: 1. The port, which is addressed pretty clearly above. 2. The connection_type. I used TCP (connection_type B#16#11) first, no connection is established. Yet, after I changed into TCP_Compatible, which means we need to set the connection_type in the UDT65 to B#16#01, and configure the IP address and Port correspondingly (they are in the inverse sequence compared to connection_type B#16#11), problem solved! I think the connection type depends on different printers. Therefore dont forget to try another one if the current one doesnt function well~

Strange in my mind is that the TCP Connections you mention should have the same function... but well... depending on the Firmware used with the CPU, true. Have you maybe checked this tool yet?
