Testing SapiS7 example "ex1.exe" - need help on clarity on the SapiS7 ussage

Jorge Ramón Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Hi, I want to test the SapiS7 example "ex1.exe" but it asks me for the device and VFD name, where can I find these names? I have made a s7net config but maybe is wrong or maybe the problem is that Im using PLC-Sim. Anyone using the ex1.exe succesful could help or giving some clarity on the SapiS7 ussage? thanks, Jorge Ramón.

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, well... there are to things to think about. First of all the VFD, Virtual Field Device, is the type of model the S7 Communication is configured in. To get the required information you have to check the S7 Connection you are about to use. There the VFD is mentioned. The second thing is that you will not be able to communicate with PLC Sim by the use of S7 Communication within your local PC or remote. This is not supported by PLC Sim, also not for the latest version 5.4 + SP. I am sorry, but you will need another PLC or Soft PLC. Best regard J_Bell

Jorge Ramón Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Hi, J_Bell and thanks for fast answer. Well, seeing PLCSim is not suitable for this I have unpacked the PLC (313C-2DP). I can use both for the Laptop-PLC SAPI_S7 communication: an USB adapter or a CP 5512. Would it be any problem with any of these? At the moment I have made a little config where I set the PLC at MPI address:2, my adapter is set as PC AdapterMPI address 0. I made a little program for testing and I can go online.Things goperfect. On the other hand I use VC++ (into the Visual Studio 2005 Pro packet). I installed the libraries and all seems to go right. The thing is, do I need to make anything on the Simatic Net config to make my connection tries through VC++ and SAPI_S7? Edit: Any "Hello world" example would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Jorge Ramón.

SIMATIC NET Quick Start CD Online – New Examples If you would want to use an easy way to try I would use an OPC Server with OPC Scout as a simple Client on it. How do you configure an S7 connection for the SIMATIC NET OPC server via PROFIBUS with the SIMATIC NET PC software? I hope it will help. Best regards J_Bell

Jorge Ramón Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	The example is clear and it's really a way to learn and understand but couldn't test for the moment cause I have a PC Adapter (USB) which seems not to work, so, I went for the CP5512 card I have but I discovered my new Dell laptop doesn't have a PCMCIA slot (but a newest one). I will re-do it in my old laptop and will try.f What I didn't see in this useful link is the next step, to import this variables into vstudio 2005 c++. thanks again.
