TIA device/driver problem?: LEGACY_S7OPCSRTX

Yesterday I started up my PC and, on logging into my Windows account, was greeted by the software wanting to find a driver for a certain unidentified device that had been discovered by the XP OS. This was immediately suspicious to me since I had not connected any new hardware to the machine. Digging into the "new" device via Device Manager, I found that the Device Instance ID is in fact ROOT\LEGACY_S7OPCSRTX\SYSTEM which is a Siemens name if I have ever seen one. On my Windows XP SP3 system, I currently have TIA Portal V11.0 Professional and WinCC Flex 2008 Advanced installed, along with MicroWin V4.0 SP7. Can anyone tell me what I should do to repair this device? Is reinstallation my only option, or is it an option at all? If so, which software should I reinstall? I posted here because TIA Portal is my newest Siemens software and, in my thinking, the most likely culprit. I welcome any profitable feedback or re-direction. Best regards, The Captive Engineer

Check if the enabled Ethernet board for the communicatuon have the protocols: Profinet IO RT-Protocol , Profinet IO RT-Protocol(LLDP), Simatic Industrial Ethernet (ISO), TCP/IP. If you didn't install yet Service Packs 1 for STEP 7 V11 and Updates for STEP 7 V11 SP1 and WinCC V11 SP1 - make it. Then if this doesn't help - reinstall of TIA11. Hope didn't go in wrong direction. My active ethernet connection has all three of the following protocols present and checked: Simatic Industrial Ethernet (ISO) Profinet IO RT-Protocol V2.0 Profinet IO RT-Protocol (LLDP) Following your instructions, I have downloaded and installed the service packs 1 each for Step 7 V11 and WinCC V11. I have also installed update 1 for SP1. None of these actions have removed the driver message that appears each time I start my account on the PC. To reinstall from the beginning seems to be more than should be necessary. Apart from the annoyance of having the message appear, I cannot yet tell if any of my device communications would be affected. I should mention one other possibility. I used to have Step 7 V5.4 installed on this PC. Is this failed driver from that previous installation? If it is not required, is it possible for me to remove it completely? I had to install the latest Step 7 V5 to support some Simotion Scout applications I've developed. Installation did not clear up this driver issue. Bummer. Any other ideas are welcome. As you may read in the thread, however, the suggestion has already been made that I do a complete uninstall/reinstall of TIA Portal Pro, V11. Yuck. Until I get a better idea of how this problem is really hurting anything, I'm not enthusiastic to waste the time. By the way, does anyone have any idea of whether Scout will soon have a release that ties into TIA Portal? Just curious. Best regards, The Captive Engineer
