Slack Posts: 30 Rating: (0)	Does anyone find the speed of going online, or getting to a network after opening a project offline a little too slow. My laptop is quite new, and no slouch. (Other engineers have PC envy). Yet I find TIA Portal is painfully slow in certain aspects. Anyone have any tips to speed it up? Dell Precision M4400 WinXP Pro SP3 Core 2 Duo P8600 @ 2.4GHZ 4Gig RAM Typical Corporate Bloatware Installed....Slowtus Notes, MS Office. etc...

I don't know the cause of this, but I just live with it. I think this modern GUI used in TIA take a lot of resources. It would be nice to have ability to use windows classical GUI.

Tom Ham Posts: 19 Rating: (2)	That is interesting. A few months ago I tried to install it on my Win7 box and it would not even install. I have 64 bit Win 7 running on a quad core box. The only way I can run TIA on it is in a virtual machine. Odly TIA is just as slow in the virtual machine on the quad core box as it is on my XP dual core machine. I have complained about performance to my vendor and they just blow it off. I think the poor performance is just something we have to live with. I can't believe the people experiencing this performance problem are in the minority. Tom

Other than the speed of the GUI, and the inability to upload (snapshot) the PLC to an offline project (it's entire NV mem intact). It's a great product, and great software. Just wish it didn't leave me twiddling my thumbs so much.

It is slow although in my experience, once you have used all functions (editors) and they are loaded in memory, performance is quite OK.. Pity however, that after a while (few hours) it starts complaining about running low on memory requiring a restart the application (not windows). Still some memory leaks in the software I guess... (Particularly when you use a print function, which I rarely need...) I am running with 1,5G memory on a Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro with a clean Windows XP SP3 Virtual Machine. No other bloath-ware loaded...

It’s depends not only of the PC but the user program and the sequence of the operations. The first time that you uses some “resource” is slow that the second time, because that the “package” was already load in the PC RAM. As comparison basis, for example, I have a Filed PG with Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2GHz and 2 GByte RAM.To open the STEP 7 Basic the first time takes 4 seconds, to open the follow projects others 5 seconds, to compile the first time 2 seconds and to download less than 20 seconds.
