john_l Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Apologies if this already exists. I am looking for examples for diagnostics in the above program. I cannot seem to find a thread for v10.5 tia portal. Specifically I am looking for the ability to show on an HMi screen hardware errors. I have read the Help files which explain what but not how , the EM modules unfortunately they bypass this and am aware of the ssl but not the actual method of achieving this in v10.5..i.e are step7 v5.5 examples relevent in v10.5

Normally EM modules is for S7-200 PLC. Step-7 5.5 is different software from V10.5 and so examples are not the same. Also please keep in mind that you can only program S7-1200 controller with version 10.5. If you want to use it for S7-300/400 controllers you need to upgrade to v11. In any case upgrade to V11 is adviced. Now I don't know about what diagnostics you speak, but you could check option when diagnostics are done via integrated WEB server on the CPU. If your CPU is S7-1200 then its good idea. How do you display the diagnostics buffer of a SIMATIC CPU with integrated web server on a SIMATIC Panel? If you're working on S7-300/400 PLC you could use S_ALARM messages for displaying the diagnostics. Also, Comfort series panels has lots of options for diagnostics. So maybe come back here with more infor on your application

I want to be able to show that a hardware failure in the PLc is shown in the HMi panel and depending on the nature of the failure a specific text statement is made

If you want to see alarms and have possibility to acknowledge - you need to use Alarm View in HMI, but in that case alarms should be generated in PLC. You could use OBs and their internal variables to create alarms. Sadly I don't knowthe example you are telling about, so my approach could be different and maybe more complicated.

john_l Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Darius, Thanks for your reply. I have reread the Help file(must have missed this bit)and found that PLC alarms and System defined alarms are not available for Basic Panels. Therefore your suggestion of an upgrade seems the way to go. Thanks once again

I want to be able to show that a hardware failure in the PLc is shown in the HMi panel and depending on the nature of the failure a specific text statement is made If you create a blank OB82, your plc will not go into STOP mode on hardware errors, but might still crash on software errors - with TIA Portal V10.5 SP2. With V11 SP2, many software errors are simply ignored and instructions skipped instead of going into STOP mode. Upgrading the PLC firmware to V2.2 along with Portal V11 SP2 and setting the PLC startup mode to go to run mode on warm restart is the best way to ensure continued up-time. You can detect errors within an OB/FB/FC using the error handling in V11 (geterror/geterrorid). You can also detect module and hardware status and also make that available for display on HMI. In V10.5 SP2, I used the OB82 to detecthardware faults, and created screens todisplay on HMI the various hardware faults that might occur with the specific hardware on those projects. It takesa little time, but is very useful for quickly diagnosing problems without connecting up the portal software to the plc. You can generate alarms in basic panels based on the conditions detected in OB82. It will take some time to develop, but it is possible. I have not seen any screens like this other than the custom screens I had to build for my projects.

Those FBs you see in the manual are only available in the V11 (Basic & Pro) version of the Portal. In the OB (diagnostic error routine), you may notice the OB #'s for the diag routine are different depending on theversion of the software used and the PLC firmware in the project. If you create a diag OB, the portal will assign the correct number for you automatically. Let it. There is a thread on how to do the diagnostics written some time ago.
