TIA V13 Update 6 crash on Software (rebuild all blocks) (solved)

Eindhoven Posts: 17 Rating: (3)	This is the problem. I cannot really elaborate more since the dialog is not very informative. During Software (rebuild all blocks) of the PLC program, at around 20-25% (not always the same db or fb) the program throws in the towel. The project size is 8 megabyte. I have tried restarting the computer, TIA portal, reloading a previous version of the program, archiving and retrieving, exporting as minimised project and retrieving, and restoring the previous monitor configuration. The problem persists. Compile Software (only changes) works fine, but i just dont feel comfortable knowing there is an unknown problem with the project. A step that i have not yet tried is recreating the whole project anew and copy pasting all the program / data / hmi / what more, with intermediate rebuild all test. This because it seems like a lot of work and the problem does not appear to be located to a single datablock or function block. Any advice in this? Thanks for your time in advance. Edit 1: Solved.

At this point, send your project to Siemens via Support Requestso they can evaluate and see whether V13 SP1 will compile your project without crashing. If so, they fixed the problem with SP1 and will recommend you upgrade. If SP1 fails to compile, they can then fix the problem for everyone. In the meantime, your resistance to rebuild (in the same project) the PLC hardware, settings, and configuration, then copy over all the OBs/FBs/FCs/DB/tags/watch tables, etc. to that new plc is only going to slow down progress. I have a very recentproject that required doing that very thing. In under an hour I was able to migrate everything, compile, download, start, and get moving forward. Yes, it was a wasted hour, but if I did not do that, I would probably still be waiting for a solution that made sense to me and my customers. Please post progress as you make it.

Eindhoven Posts: 17 Rating: (3)	Solved. Thanks for the advice, Einstein. We are working with more people on the same project at the same time. Thus, only one person can work with the leading version, while the other has to do toolmaking or research and prepare the more simple modifications. The second is that this is a large project in which i am fairly green. Steps followed to achieve the solution: 1 - Hey, there is an update, service pack 1 for Step7 and WinCC (downloaded 6 + 7 gig, waited 4 hours for all extractions and installations). Ok, TIA does not start anymore. Need 2 more updates, S7-plcsim and SIMATIC Startdrive. Downloaded and installed the first, the second however needed to be manually downloaded from the website. To do that i had to make an account. Then request the file, to be greeted by a page that wrote that a Siemens employee has to manually authorise this download. Startdrive could not be uninstalled for it has no folder in the startmenu and does also not appear on the configuration screen -> installed programs menu. Ok, so TIA does not work and i have to wait a couple of days on Siemens... Reverted the system image to before the update actions. 2 - Copying will probably solve it (assumed), but i am not comforatble with all aspects of TIA yet. Maybe i can localise the problem in this project without actually rebuilding the entire functioning project again. Started cutting the program in half and remove half the function calls. Based on the result of "rebuild all blocks"-tests i selected the offending side and eventually narrowed the search to one function call. This fc block (FC76) was written in SCL. Started cutting in the block and found: ctrl+a, ctrl+c, delete, ctrl+v, save solves the problem, and rebuild all seems to work again. Hope this can be of help to someone else with the same problem.

Thank you for posting the SCL select all, copy, delete, paste, save, compile/rebuild all trick. I have run across this as a work-around, but never before has it been said so simply. :)
