Hello, Firts of all, the MD741-1 comes with an Ethernet interface (and the TIM 3V-IE has such an interface) You could use a CP343-1, or a Profinet CPU (they provide an Ethernet interface). But a TIM (together with the SINAUT server software on the PC) has an important role in limiting the data to the minimum required. Don't forget that GPRS is much more expensive than any other Internet connection. And the bandwidth is limited compared to a wired network or a wired Internet connection. SINAUT will send data event driven, or change driven (with a threshold) and normally not cyclically. A further role of the TIM is that it stores messages if they cannot be delivered to the server (GPRS is not as reliable as a wired local network and may be out of order for a while, or overloaded, ...). In the picture you have posted, you have also a central standalone TIM. This will allow rerouting of messages beween remote stations, allowing cross communication between remote stations. You see, there are arguments to use TIMs. You have to define your needs interms of application requirements, volumes, ... Have a look to the system manual of SINAUT: Band 1: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/24621696 |
