TIMER type to an FB used 22 times

Per L Posts: 29 Rating: (0)	Hi, I have an FB. Se attachment. Instead of timer in this FB I want to use an INPUT to FB declared as TIMER. in FC I am going to CALL the FB above 22 times = 22 Instances. There I write for example T 23 to the IN to FB declared as TIMER. Next instance of FB T 24 a s o. But how to start the timer and set the Preset time? Denilson Pegaia Platinum Member Joined: 9/23/2005 Last visit: 1/17/2025 Posts: 4394 Rating: (1463)	Hi, I suggest you as alternative to use a SFB 3, 4, and/or 5 in muitinstace mode instead of timers. So you will not need to check/manage the timers resources.

Thijs Posts: 121 Rating: (16)	I find the disadvantage off an SFB timer the memory usage. Still with siemens PLC I find the memory the bottleneck off the system. Counters instead of timers are very common used. I find the advantage the posibility to stop an timer and continou without restarting the timer. Please put the comparator allso infront off the add_i otherwise the counter will continou even when the counter is done. Allso think about the folowing, are you going te use an up- or downcount.

You can pass Timer number and preset value as input variables for FB.For example in STL: FUNCTION_BLOCK FB 4 TITLE = VERSION : 0.1 VAR_INPUT TNum : WORD ; TVal : S5TIME := S5T#1S; END_VAR VAR_OUTPUT o_TimerOut : BOOL ; END_VAR VAR_TEMP tTim : WORD ; END_VAR BEGIN NETWORK TITLE = L #TNum; T #tTim; L #TVal; SD T [#tTim]; END_FUNCTION_BLOCK You can call FB as many times as you like with different timer number and preset value(restriction is number of built-in timers and it depends on type of PLC you are using). Later in your source you can check timer status: A T [#tTim] = #o_TimerOut

halvegare Posts: 13 Rating: (0)	I have made a fc with all the siemens timer functions it uses less memory and you have allmost a much timers as you want you only have to make een STAT Time( youcan also do it with aINT)and it wil work fine
