TIP: How to create a Standard DB in STEP 7 V12

Denilson Pegaia Platinum Expert Joined: 9/23/2005 Last visit: 9/19/2024 Posts: 4347 Rating: (1446)	Hi, to create a Standard DB in STEP 7 V12, create a DB as usual (add new, etc...). After created, right mouse click, properties, attribute and uncheck the option "optimized'.

Am I missing something? Regards Nik I thought I read something in a TIA Portal programming guideline PDF last week that stated all instance DBs are automatically configured as optimized for S7-1200/1500 and s7-300/400 compatible (standard) for those PLCs. Is this not what you are seeing?

When we use third party HMIs we need to have absolute addresses inthe DBs to access the DB Data. Regards You can always map or copy the data from the instance DB to a custom HMI-specific DB. For Siemens panels, they can read the tag names without having to know the absolute address. To me, it seems like Siemens is trying to make it easy to use their components and not so easy to use 3rd party components.

Nikzitronik Posts: 150 Rating: (17)	Yes indeed. The workaround would be to create a global DB with absolute addresses and move data from the instance DB to the global DB. I dont see why siemens would try to make it hard to use 3rd party HMIs. Sometimes you have clientes expanding Nd already having new hardware that they dont want to throw away. At such situations you need Totaly integrated automation
