andyATspectooling.com, This is not Customer Support. That is found here: Support Requestand support.automation.siemens.com but not the forums. This forum is predominantly user-to-user support helping solve problems in the real world not necessarily thought of by Siemens or to find shortcuts or optimal solutions to generic problems. Sometimes specific issues are addressed with new Siemens folks to help them get started. However, the vast majority of the questions are items not covered by manuals, FAQs, typos, or poorly worded or written manuals and FAQs. The moderators consolidate many of the threads and posts and forward to folks at Siemens HQ and they often result in new FAQs written and manual updates performed to address these common problems. What you are asking is very specific to your given project assignment, yet at the same time, relatively generic. Yes, you are right, it does require reading a manual or 10 and the Siemens way is not what most controls people I know are used to working with. Makes it difficult at times. I share in your frustration with responsiveness, but we are giving up our working time to respond to questions, or answering on our personal time. Either way, you are not alone in feeling there should be better documentation with easier to access information. I miss the documentation of a strong competitor, especially in the USA, where words, pictures, samples, and timing charts are given. Siemens is getting better, but you already know it is far to technical for most everyday problems. That said, what problem(s) are you still having that I could help with? If you use UDP for your PC communications, it will increase speed tremendously. Also, you can dedicate more communication time % from the default of 20% to 30 or 40%, and perhaps put your UDP comms in a cyclic OB that runs every 2-4 ms (you have to find what is optimal for your project and environment) to send data updates. You can access the data directly using the periphery addressing scheme. For s7-1200s, it looks like IW80:P for reading the data on IW80 right now rather than relying on the process image. |

Wow. I have been checking for updates almost daily but the portal was not finding any. Thank you huggy_d1now I have update 5 which allows HMI tag tables to accept arrays. Problem solved and now working perfectly, almost. The page where I found the link to the update warns of an issue with panel soft keys misbehaving. It says 'please contact the SIMATIC Hotline to obtain an interim patch' I contacted the Siemens hotline and spoke to a very nice man who has no idea about the issue or the patch but he is going to find out and call me back. I hope. I also reported an issue with the online support request system, my request was responded to asking for some further details. I responded but the system still says it is waiting for customer response. I replied a few times but the status will not change from 'cust. wait'. |
