Hi everyone,

I am trying to make a connection via RS232 to send a string of 80 characters. For this I am using TIA Portal 13 with a 1510 Plc and a CM 6ES137 .... As a block I am using Send P2P and Receive P2P.

To verify that it works correctly I'm using Hercules Setup. The problem is that when I send from the Hercules, the data that come to me are different from the ones I have sent. What could be the problem? Am I using the appropriate blocks for this purpose? Should I use other communication, such as Modbus?

It's my first time configuring RS232.

I send you some screenshots. The previous switches, I force them directly. And to save the data I'm using an array of word. It's okay?

you have already good answers from guys, but I want also give you my recommendations. Look to this topic, take infos as only some standard help, hope it can be helpful to you.

RS485 ASCII

I will be simply work with array of bytes, you can then also work with received data with next prefered action from byte sequence. Now I maybe doubt that you need use these comm instructions, probably you need use another depended to your CP/CM card on your system. What is your card, expect some 138-4DF01???? card with ASCII or 3964 protocol option. In this case you want simply test communication with f.ex. Hercules SW, you need select ASCII protocol. Sry only another recommendation to ASCII protocol, look for ASCII table somewhere in net. If you receive some data (f.ex. from Hercules SW), you'll have them as sequence of f.ex. hex values coresponding to chars in ASCII table. Look and check that, this can be your goal also, understand values and char representation due ASCII protocol.

Yes, I try to translate the ascci from hexadecimal values. I have a CM 6ES7137-6AAD0-0BA0. You say that I need other blocks? Then you think that is better 3694 or RS485? But for RS485 I need other conections because this protocol need 4 wire, no?

I want to sen a lot of characters, a frame araound 80 characters, thsi the way to get this goal?

aaaah you're using ET200SP system? In this case ok with that instructions. You can find also all needed infos here:

As is described in documentation, you can select more physical media for Exchange of data - RS232, RS422/485 and also protocols. In this case if you want work with ASCII, Freeport selection is your choice so set this in properties of CM's protocol. In description is also info that max 2 KB can be used with frame length.

Update: sry I was forget to ask, what is your medium for connection with PC. RS-232 or RS-485? Probably you have RS-232 HW serial port or some USB adapter to RS-232 or to RS-422/485. Set and connect wires due this selection. I see some missunderstandings about this area so start pls study serial communication standards, protocols and medium selection.
