UART debug cable question

Good morning!

Hopefully I get my debug cable tomorrow 

What confuses me, is the wiring. I have +5V, RX, TX, GND on the cable.

5V not needed, GND is clear. 

But: 

RX on cable is connected to RX of board or are RX / TX crossed?

Wikipedia states it might be either way because of autocrossing ???

And what about PuTTY? Where can I  read about the setup (parameters to set) ?

Finally: Is there a shell after firing up debug mode? 

Sorry to bug you with these stupid questions. I am a Simatic guy, sometimes playing Raspberry Pi but this IOT is a completely different beast.

The UART settings are 115200 8N1.

Regarding rx/tx, it's the usual 50:50 chance: If you do not see any output after powering on, flip those connections, and it should work then.

What you get then are first the outputs of the bootloaders, then the kernel boot log, and if that succeeded a login prompt of Debian Linux.

You have a full-blown pro cable including 6 pin header. Whats the brand?

Maybe put those info in the Getting Started Manual as well?

Just one thing:Signal level on the advertised cable is 3.3V. I think the cable I ordered has 5 V signal level.

Vcc always is 5 VDC, though.

Is this of importance ?

Actually, I'm not sure if my cables are 5V. They are RPi-compatible, I'm using them all around with original or RPi-like boards, and the IOT20x0 devices. But that means they are 3.3V:

"All UARTs on the Raspberry Pi are 3.3V only - damage will occur if they are connected to 5V systems."

So, jan, you told me that cable was correct (see my other post)?

I just hooked up my meter to the X14 pins and measured 3.3 VDC on the negated outputs.

I guess the 5 Volt is the auxiliary voltage on the red wire. Hm..
