If it appears that the flow meter cannot

complete an Initial Makeup it means that the

pipe and/or liquid conditions do not permit a

receive signal that meets the flow detection

standards. The system will not operate.

solution:

Attempt to improve operating conditions by

reinstalling the sensors at a different spacing

offset, or even at a different location on the pipe.

Switching from Reflect to Direct Mount may solve

the problem. However, operation may not be

possible if there is poor liquid or pipe wall sonic

conductivit

Several settings are mandatory. Some can be skipped.

You must configure "select a pipe class" and select a pipe material and pipe size. A pop-up pick list appears when you " > manual" which you can scroll through to pick a pipe class.

Selecting a pipe class includes selecting a material (like CS for carbon steel), a pipe size 8 (for 8 inch) and its class, like schedule 40. When you pick a class from the list, the FST knows, shows, and uses the nominal wall thickness. If your pipe is not standard pipe, you are required to enter the wall thickness.

You must configure liner material, if the pipe is has a bonded lining (most pipes don't).

You are not allowed to not know what kind of pipe you are clamping to.

You should select an appropriate liquid from the pop-up list, although water will get a flow reading in a good pipel

You can skip "pipe configuration" and "anomaly diams".

For Xdcr Model and Size, you are required to enter the proper type of transducers. The transducers have a label with ID information.

For Xdcr Mount mode, you can use reflect mode (same side of pipe) on metal pipe, you must use direct mode
(opposite sides of the pipe) on plastic pipe,

The FST will calculate the Index value for spacing the transducers. Mount the transducers at the 'ref' and at the 'index' value on the mounting bar or use the LTN value to determine how far apart they need to be.

Then do the "Install Completed".

The pipe needs to be clean and smooth. There needs to be some coupling compound/grease on the face of the transducer. If you can get the rubber strips to work, you're better than I am; I never use them. If you can't get a setup to work, remove the rubber strips if you've used them and try mounting without them (use coupling compound/grease)

Check integrity of the transducer coax cable. Sometimes a strand of copper shield shorts to the center conductor.

If there's no liquid in the pipe, the setup will fail. If there's too much air in the pipe (two phase), the setup will fail.

If the meter can't give you a good reading, it won't a give a reading at all.

i have a question is it necessary the pipe include the liquid or even empty because i have tried when the pipe was empty.

It sounds like someone has possibly suggested this to you to try and get the meter set up? It's on page 117 of the FUS1010 manual, when the meter is going through the drive selection procedure after pressing "install" press <ALT> and <MENU> at the same time. This works well in the direct mode to locate the second transducer on the opposite side of the pipe.

As it sounds the coupling compound it needed to insure the transducer pulses are coupled to the pipe allowing for a proper measurement into the process fluid.
