Unable to connect (ping) 313C-2DP via CP343-1 Lean

Kolma Posts: 57 Rating: (1)	Hello! I'm getting grey hair with this problem. On one project I have PLC 313C-2DC with CP343-1 Lean latest upgarded firmware. I would like to connect to it just to go online or download corrected ladder with normal PC with step 7 v5.4 installed. This PC has two network adapter. Integrated adapter has 192.168.1.110 address. And Other one has 192.168.16.222 and this one is directly connected to CP(192.168.16.110). It connects with no problem, but I cannot even ping CP. PG/PC interface is set to TCP/IP network adapter. With same settings with my laptop I can get to CP with no problem. What could be wrong? Thank you, Kolma

You can access (ping) the CP via the integrated adapter which has IP address 192.168.1.110. However, you cannot access (ping) the CP from the other adapter that has IP address 192.168.16.222. The CP has IP address of 192.168.16.110. If I have understood the issue correctly, then the first thing that stands out is that the 2 adapters are on different sub-nets (integrated is on 1, the other one is on 16). But this is a bit weird, as I would expect that you would be able to reach CP via the 192.168.16.222 adapter (same sub-net) but not the 192.168.1.110 adapter (different sub-net). What error is ping returning? What is the subnet mask setting for the 2 adapters? (To get this information, start up a dos prompt and enter the command 'IPCONFIG /ALL'. (obviously without the quotes)). I assume that the connection is direct from the PC to the CP and not going via a network switch?

Kolma Posts: 57 Rating: (1)	No, no. I cannot ping with integrated adapted either. That was my first try and because it wasn't working, I tried with another network adapter on different subnet (16). On this computer firewall is switched off. But as I said when I connect same cable to my laptop computer ping and everything else is working. Subnet mask is same 255.255.255.0 on both adapters (integrated and another one) With best regards, Kolma

With the CP having and IP address of 192.168.16.110 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 you will only be able to ping from a PC with an IP address of 192.168.16.XXX via a direct connection or network switch connection. To ping devices on different subnets you will have to go through a router. So assuming that the connection is direct from the PC to the CP. The adapter with the IP address 192.169.16.222 should be able to ping the CP OK. The adapter with the IP address 192.168.1.110 should not be able to ping the CP. I expect the ping should give the "destination host is unreachable message". What error codes/messages are you getting from the ping from each adapter? You say that the settings on both the PC and the laptop are the same. Are you sure of this?

Kolma Posts: 57 Rating: (1)	Yes that understanding is now correct. I have direct connection from desktop PC (192.168.16.222) to CP (192.168.16.110). When I connect the cable from CP to adapter I see both LEDs begin to blink and computer makes connection without any error. But no reply if I try to ping CP. As I said I had just one network adapter and I tried with that one (then CP and PC were on 192.168.1.XXX subnet) and also without success. Just like that CP remember which was the first connection (first love) and don't allow anyone else. But it is driving me crazy. Kolma

It looks to me like the problem lies with the PC / PCS7 setup. What is ping saying exactly (the error message e.g. request time out etc.)? What ping are you using the dos prompt version or the PCS7 CP diagnostics version? What is your CP properties from hardware config. Are you using IP protocol / ISO protocol or both? Have you tried using the CP diagnostics from within the hardware config to see if anything is shown? Maybe J. Bell has some other ideas / tests.
