Upgrade databases of WinCC V6.0

amateur Posts: 145 Rating: (3)	The customer's project isn on WinCC V6.0 SP3 + Hotfix 2. We tried to install WInCC V6.0 SP4 but the installation procedure stopped by a message saying that we also have to install the SQL Server for WinCC V6.0 SP4. However, there is a question, which we are not aware of, and it is very critical. The databases of both the Alarm Logging and Tag Logging are very important for the administrator of the plant. So, the question is the following : Is there any chance, even the slightest, that the databases will be resetted, deleted or anything? Thanks in advance for your time

April Posts: 1776 Rating: (95)	Hi, have you checked the readme? So I know between WinCC V6.0 SP3 and SP4 also a SP for SQL SP have to be installed. In WinCC 6.0 SP3 is SQL SP3 and in WinCC V6.0 SP4 is SQL SP4. See also http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/22450372 The Runtime datas should not be loosed after this update, but save your project before you update. Or better create an Image of your installation for a fast way back, if something is happened. Godd luck April

amateur Posts: 145 Rating: (3)	Hi, Thanks for your quick replies. April, How do we create an image of our installation? Do you mean the Restore Point of the Windows? Because after a thorough searching in the Help of the Windows Server 2000, there isn't such a tool. Which tool do you suggest or are you currently using? We are asking you that because we are afraid that in case something qoes wrong, how can we effectively return to our previous state, without any further problems. Best Regards

You could buy the tool TrueImage, but there are several (read a lot) of imaging tools available. Search the web and you will find. be sure that you know what you are doing and test it on a spare pc first.

Danielle Posts: 1275 Rating: (123)	Hi, About the upgrade, the SQL version is the one which comes with the v6.0 SP4 upgrade. But you should check compatibility for Simatic Net, Step7 or any other Siemens software. For images I use Acronis TrueImage, the one Ikkezelf mentioned.. as he said, there are a lot of tools which allow you to create an image of your entire HD. With that, if you run into trouble you can easily and quicly restore your system, and it'll be identical to what it was when you created the image... Best regards, Danielle
