We often receive questions about how to upgrade the licences of an existing Server/Client System in WinCC Professional.Below, an example of a configuration is described.

Initial situation:

Server/Client system (WinCC Professional V15.1) consisting of the following licences:

- "SIMATIC WinCC Server for Runtime Professional" (Server).

- "SIMATIC WinCC RT Professional, 4096 Power Tags V15.1" (Server)

- "SIMATIC WinCC Client for Runtime Professional V15.1" (Client).

Target:

Upgrade existing Server/Client system to WinCC Professional V16.

Solution:

• The "SIMATIC WinCC Server for Runtime Professional" licence is versionless and does not require an upgrade.
• The licence "SIMATIC WinCC RT Professional, 4096 Power-Tags V15.1" is version-dependent (this licence is valid for V15.1 and earlier TIA Portal versions, for example). To upgrade this licence to V16, an upgrade licence is required. The upgrade licence "SIMATIC WinCC RT Professional, 4096 Power-Tags V16, upgrade V11..V15 -> V16" can be used to upgrade existing "SIMATIC WinCC RT Professional, 4096 Power-Tags" licences (V11..V15) to V16.
• The "SIMATIC WinCC Client for Runtime Professional V15.1" licence is version-dependent (this licence is valid for V15.1 and earlier TIA Portal versions, for example). To upgrade this licence to V16, an upgrade licence is required. The upgrade licence "SIMATIC WinCC Client for Runtime Prof V16 upgrade V11..V15 -> V16" can be used to upgrade existing "SIMATIC WinCC Client for Runtime Professional" licences (V11..V15) to V16.

Result (after upgrading the licences):

Server/Client system (WinCC Professional V16) consisting of the following licences:

- "SIMATIC WinCC Server for Runtime Professional" (Server).

- "SIMATIC WinCC RT Professional, 4096 Power Tags V16" (Server)

- "SIMATIC WinCC Client for Runtime Professional V16" (Client)
