navidah Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	Dear all i want to upgrade the firmware of a cpu 417-4HL04 from V4.0.10 to V4.0.11 but i afraid of the "An update of the H system to the latest firmware version is only possible while the facility is off. " sentence in Siemens guide page. please advise me what to do.

Aret Posts: 2348 Rating: (264)	Follow guide is best way. Alternative: Upload project. If you can leave system on 1 PLC you can try following - physically break all wiring to 1 half of H-system (take out front connectors, sync cables, interface cables etc.). Download new firmware via card on this CPU. After CPU starts - download project. Here you need to stop facility shortly - to switch off second CPU and switch back on 1st CPU. Then you can continue working on 1st half and reloading FW on the second. Please mention - this procedure is NOT stated as safe by Siemens, so USE ON YOUR OWN RISK. Generally you MUST follow guide and there must be serious reasons to follow alternative way.

gre_m Posts: 947 Rating: (45)	I update firmware by flash card and PG. I have flash card 16Mb. This card is big, but i not have another. Next i unpack downloaded firmware on hard disk PG and wrote it on flash card. After end this process i eject flash card. On plc need make power off. Then insert flash card in plc and make power on. After self test plc renewing own firmware. End process update you can see by LED on CPU. For details see manual.

Generally alternative way is - upload CPU1, disconnect CPU1, upgrade CPU1, download CPU1, wait till it starts 1st time, turn off CPU1, turn off CPU2, here you dont control anything,connect CPU1, disconnect CPU2, turn on CPU1, here your control system is on again, then you act with CPU2.

navidah Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	finally i have upgraded the cpu. then i put it as redundant of an originallu version 11 but after changing to main cpu, it became faulty. i think the problem is in hardware of my cpu. what do you think?

gre_m Posts: 947 Rating: (45)	Hello! After the change of firmware CPU need reboot. After reboot the CPU make the test RAM. It's a long process, as sample: if 414-4h with 2.8mb RAM makes it about 14 minutes. That 417 with 20MB of RAM to do it at least one hour. Maybe you have mistakenly thought that cpu spoiled, but really just do not wait until the end of testing memory. to wait any longer?

navidah Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	Dear gre_m i am sure that the upgarading and self test have been finished completely and without error. after upgrading i checked the firmware version in step7 and it was version 11. is there any other advice to help me?
