USB to Serial connection

rocket1010 Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Hello, I cannot connect toan S7 CPU315-2dP using a Belkin USB-serial adapter, has anyone had any luck connecting their PC in this fashion, if so what are you using? appreciate your help!

neo Posts: 264 Rating: (59)	Hello, the PCAdapter USB costs about 300 Euro. But it´s not a adapter from USB to serial interface, but directly an adapter from USB to RS485 - PPI / MPI / PB. best regards

figge Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	Hi! I think the problem is the power for the adapter. I had the same problem after our serialport broke. We bought an USB-Serial adapter and had communication with Mitsubishi PLC:s and e-900 panels and even OP-7 and MP-270. The big problem was with MPI-communication. Even thought the power-lamp did lit we couldnt communicate with the PLC. We bought a new laptop... Check: HMI Adapter (order number: 6ES7972-0CA1x-0XA0), PC Adapter (order number: 6ES7972-0CA2x-0XA0) and TS Adapter (order number: 6ES7972-0CA3x-0XA0) require both 5V and 24V at the MPI/DP interface. Siemens support say in this link : The following connections are not possible with a PC or USB adapter: Setup via parallel-serial converter or USB-serial converter.

Thumper Posts: 62 Rating: (19)	Greeting to All, We had an experience with new laptops, with USB ports, and needing an RS232 port for the download to TP170A, without rolling the desk top out to the floor. I tried several USB/RS232 converters without success. One day I asked our IT person to try and find a PCMCIA card to 9 pin RS232. It wasn't 2 days later he had one. MicroWin likes it, Protool likes it, WinCC Flexible 2005likes it, GE Simplicity likes it. It appears as a real COM port when you install it. It worked so well, anybody with a new laptop has one to those issued with it. There are about5 different manufacturers and they range from $15 USD to $150 USD. Best Regards, Thumper
