Hello rajudon; The seperator moduile is uused when you have a mixture of standard and failsafe IO modules on your S7-300/ET 200M, and you need SIL3/PLe certification in your project. See the following explanation (from the second FAQ in this link) http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/7110199 You can also use a combination of fail-safe and standard input/output blocks in an ET 200M station. To attain safety class SIL 3/PL e/category 4 with combined operation in the ET 200M station, you need the isolation module if you are using the following modules of the ET 200M or their predecessor versions
The isolation module separates the potential groups of the fail-safe and standard modules. In this case, the standard I/O modules must be slotted to the left and the fail-safe modules to the right of the isolation module. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |

Hello rajudon I'd say this is abug in Step 7 (you do NOT need the Safety Protector Module with the new F-I/O cards as per the FAQ that you already have, so you can also ignore the incorrectly shown part number for it). The way I see it, your configuration is ok for up to SIL3/Cat.4/PLe without the usage of the Safety Protector Module. For your info, I get the same silly display as you with Step7 V5.5. SP2, so it is not because you have an older Step 7 version. I would urge you though to seek clarification from Siemens via a Support request and keep us posted here about the answer. I hope this helps |

New question published by Smithyy is split to a separate thread with the subject Official document for safety system. Best regards |
