Is the same process for basic panels? 

maybe depending on the type. I checked it for KTP700 and KTP1200 and at least in the engineering system you can follow the steps described by Wizard.

Wizard

Go to "Scheduled tasks", add new.

Go to properties (And select a trigger 'User change')

Then go to 'Events'

And add a function to 'update' (use the function: 'GetUserName')

select a HMI tag (internal)

now go to screen, use an I/O field and use the HMI tag.

 This works with older panels also, even WinCC Flexible panels.
