Using a DP/DP Coupler to communicate betwwen S5 and S7

Haz3y14 Member Joined: 2/12/2013 Last visit: 8/9/2024 Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Hey everyone, I would like to know if it is possible to use the Siemens DP/DP coupler (6ES7 158-0AD01-0XA0) to pass data back and forth from an S5 and and S7 processor. I have a machine with an existing S5 master and an existing S7 master nut they are not communicating through Profibus or Profinet. Only hard a hand full of hardwired signals. I do not know much about S5 and COM Profibus but I do know the S5 is an 135U series with a 928CPU and the IM308C profibus module. I haven´t started any programming for it and I have done DP/DP couplers on S7 series a bunch of times. Before I get going I want to know is it possible? I have read before that it is but I am not sure with the modern GSD and revisions for the 6ES7 158-0AD01-0XA0. And yes I do know that it would be better to just forget about the S5 and have everything in S7 but right now that is not an option for me. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike

playerslight Posts: 1064 Rating: (72)	Yes you can communicate from a s5 to s7 using a dp to dp coupler as of right now i have about 100 or so of them talking . I didn't set it up myself so i can't help you there sorry

fritz Diamond Expert Joined: 10/7/2005 Last visit: 10/5/2024 Posts: 3024 Rating: (1054)	Hello Haz3y14 Good news first: Yes, it is absolutely possible to use a DP/DP coupler for Profibus DP based S5 IM308C <-> S7data exchange (done it many many times myself). The devil is in the detail though when it comes to the IM308C configuration and S5 I/O addressing(linear P or Q area based addressing orpage addressing orFB192 usage, DB1 usage/setupetc.)and I urge you to start by having a good read of the ET 200 Distributed I/O System with IM 308-C and S5-95U manual, especially chapter 6.1. Theother manual of interest is of course COM Profibus and Ihope this helpsto get you started.
