Using G120 drive for EOT crane application

Atul Chahure Posts: 1 Rating: (1)	I am involved in a project of EOT crane in which there are slip-ring motors for all cranefunctions - main hoist, auxilliary hoist, long travel, cross travel. Now, those motors are going to be replaced by squirrel cage motors + G120 drives. Those slip-ring motorsare used with starting resistors. While replacing, is it proper to retain the kW rating as it is? Can G120 drive give the same amount of torque boost at starting?

sparten Posts: 205 Rating: (11)	hi Atul, are talking about which KW whether is it motor KW or Drive KW???? yes g120drive provied that much starting boost like Slipring motor with resister for thjis you required close loop operation using Encoderdevice..... And laso you required braking assembly like braking resistore which is very important thing bcoz in crane application during lowering application motor continuosly operate in regenration mode...

Well I guess YES Atul Chahure Can G120 drive give the same amount of torque boost at starting? Here too YES Just make sure about Drive Rating too And, Please use Encoder specifically in hoisting Application Regards Devesh Vithani

Basically slip-ring motors are selected because of their ability to provide high starting torque & that’s why external resistances are used. Moreover slip ring induction motors are with different CDF & duty cycle. Technically you should have the data like acceleration time, PUT torque, maximum torque, maximum power, base speed etc of load requirement. From this you can select the motor & once the complete load cycle of motor is finalized then you can select the drive. Please also note that while selecting motor with drive, you must select motor of inverter duty specially designed for EOT crane application.
