Using modem with WinCC

I have 12 S7-200 stations (CPU22x and modem GSM), and a monitorization station with WinCC (PC with WinCC and GSM modem). And I need to realize a wireless communication via GSM between the S7-200 and the monitorization stations. The topology: CPU22x-Modem ---------- .... GSM network -------- Modem-WinCC CPU22x-Modem ---------- Can I connect directly the GSM modem with the WinCC? I found a solution, using SINAUT Micro SC, and from WinCC connecting to the SINAUT Micro SC via OPC. But I need GPRS connection between the SINAUT Micro SC and the S7-200 stations. Or it is working via GSM too? Or any other solutions?

I think that GPRS is not a problem, but I'm not familiar in GPRS communication yet, and I have some question: 1) I really need a DSL internet connection for SINAUT Micro SC, or I can use the MD720-3 GSM/GPRS modem (Connected via serial port to the calculator)? SINAUT Micro SC is capable to use this modem, or I need to install a driver and configure the connection in Windows? 2) What I need to configure for SINAUT Micro SC? (The tel nr of eache station, or the IP address of each station?) 3) GPRS communication is based on IP, PPP orX.25 If I use IP I need a static IP address for each station. But using PPP, can I initiate a connection between the Micro SC and a station using the telephone number? Or the communication is alwayd based on IP? (I think that the best way is a VPN network from the Network Operator, each station and control center having a fix static IP...) 4) In the PLC, I need to write a driver for the modem using at commands? Or using the S7-200 block library (coming with SINAUT Micro SC) the communication between S7-200 and the modem is working automatically? 5) Can I access input/output/memory location in S7-200 (like in S7-200 PC Access), or I need a communication protocol if i want to send (for example) AIW0? 6) Can you send me some screenshots about configuring the SINAUT Micro SC and the PLC (I will use CPU224 XP)? (I found a demo version from PC Access) Thanks in advance, Balogh Szabolcs Hello Balogh, We're gonna start a project with a S7-200 (CPU 226) sending SMS to GSM cell phones through SINAUT. From the information we gathered, MD720-3 will work just fine. There's a slot for the GSM card, and you'll need to configure how to send the SMS in the PLC (we haven't started this project, so we didn't get to this part). If you just need to send SMS, then there should be no need for additional software. Best regards, Danielle

Then I called Siemens' support in Germany last week, and they said they'd return the call within 4 hours, and it's been days! [:P] Guess I haven't been so lucky lately... [:(] If you get any news on this product, please post, since we'll very likely be needing it around here pretty soon. Best regards, Danielle

I read the documentations and examples found at: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/22537809 and I think I know how it is working :} So... you need an S7-200 PLC (CPU224, or better... I think I will use CPU224 XP, because I need 1-2 analog inputs)... and a modem MD720-3 (+antenna) connected to the PLC with PPI cable. You need the library block (coming with the SINAUT Micro SC - you can download a library from the specified URL, but I don't know if it is that library, or it is just an example, demo... I don't know). This library contains some function for controlling the communication, and for sending SMS (These functions are using AT commands, but all of them has implemented a full comunication driver, returning OK in case of success, or an ERROR CODE in case of an error). You need a fix public IP address for the SINAUT Micro SC station: or using an internet connection - this is an easiest solution, or using GPRS modem - but in this case you need a fix public IP from the mobile network operator, because usually using GPRS you have dinamic IP's. If you can't get a fix public IP address you can use the dyndns service. You need to configure in SINAUT Micro SC a connection for each station and must be defined the following parameters: Station name, Station number, Password. You need to configure these parameters for each station (I think using the WDC_INIT function). If you have configured correctly the station, you can send/recive data using the WDC_SEND/WDC_RECIVE functions. Or you can send SMS message using the WDC_SMS function.
